Canyonland National Park

After checking out Dead Horse Point, we went on to Canyonland National Park. By now we are pretty high up and the views are just amazing.

And then we saw a truck on a road in the valley and it really did not look that bad.

So after looking around a little bit more, we decided that our little car can do this and started on the Jeep trail down Shafer Trail to Potash Road and eventually back to Route 191. By the time we realized that this was not a good idea there was no place to turn around. And even if we would have found a place to turn around, Doug was sure that the car was not able to go up this challenging path again. The trail consists of a lot of rocks sticking out of the dirt and it was a very steep decline with a lot of tight turns. It took us about an hour to make it down into the valley.

We started on the ridge in the background and if you zoom in a lot you can see some grooves in the mountain behind the car, that is the trail. I was holding on for dear life the whole time we went downhill, so there are no pictures. I am so glad that my car has a protective body plate underneath the car, but I really don't want to see what shape it is in now. The sound of scraping over rocks and boulders is really not a good sound. The remaining 20 miles of the way back to pavement were somewhat easier, but there were still some challenges to get the car back on pavement in one piece.

The blue clear water in these fields was just amazing. I never thought I would see them up this close. The road really looked smoother from way above. By the time we hit pavement, I was ready to get out of the car and kiss the pavement.
