Sinsheim Auto & Technik Museum

It has been very cold and rainy here for the last week, but that does not stop us from checking out things. Doug on a previous visit to Germany had seen a Concorde displayed high above a building and was curious to check out this museum.

So on Tuesday we got into the car, drove about 150 kilometers in the rain and arrived at the Sinsheim Auto & Technik Museum. The museum is really two huge airplane hangers and you will be able to find just about anything that has a motor in it there. I thought we were going to see an airplane museum, but that is what I get for thinking. We started with some American oldie cars,

followed by a huge assortment of first and second World War memorabilia from Germany, Russia and USA.

There were planes above us and tractors on the ground.

There were trains and motorcycles.

At last we climbed into the Concorde (while it was still raining) and its Russian counterpart.

I never knew that the Russians had built a supersonic plane. It apparently had a lot of problems in the first two years of service and the project was scratched. I took over 50 pictures and will upload them to webshots when we get back to the States. It was an incredible day with way to much stuff to see and we drove back to Mainz in the rain and fog very tired. We will need a week of rest to recuperate from this trip when we get back!!
